It was six years ago when in final savasna, I began to laugh, my life had changed. It had changed for the better. I had gone from a woman deeply concerned about getting my first big break in New York City at an ad agency to a woman that was deeply concerned about something far greater. I was hooked on feeling good about myself and being surrounded by healthy people. I began attending seminars and workshops, reading books and spending countless hours talking with everyone I knew and didn’t know about health, feeling good, and the state of the nation’s health. Along the way I decided to go back to school and study integrative nutrition. I am now a certified Holistic Health Counselor and the founder and director of EVOLVE-A holistic health counseling practice. I reside in Tahoe and spend my time at my practice, teaching yoga, loving my dog and skiing when the snow falls.
Wherever I go, whether it is on a ski lift, a cocktail party, the yoga studio lobby, the question inevitably comes up about what I do for a living.
My response: “I am a Holistic Health Counselor.”
I get two responses.
Response 1: “Oh, great! You must love that.” (This response comes with a beautiful smile and a twinkle of the eye which one can clearly see means nothing other than while they think the title sounds cool, they have no idea what I do.)
Response 2: “What the heck is that?” (The honest response.)
The definition is simple. I work with clients to help them become their best selves. I walk them through their journey in finding optimal health. I am your personal advocate for living an energized and passionate life. Whatever your concern, my job is to help you find which foods and lifestyle choices work best for the life you desire.
I am different than your standard nutritionist because I look at the whole person-hence the word holistic health counselor. I’m blogging to make connections with other people who agree and disagree with the information I share here. My ultimate goal is to create a discussion about the successes and challenges associated with becoming healthier. It would also be pretty cool to hear about the next acai berry before I hear about it on Oprah (Not that I did, but you know what I mean).
Love your article, your story of your awakening and your description of the WHOLE person…inspiring to meet others on a similar path and quest to inspire TOTAL Well-being in the clients they serve…all the best to you….taking an ACAI supplement and loving it!
